Teacher INSET Sessions

The benefits of learning a new instrument are huge and your students will share a memorable and empowering experience of working together to create an awesome, exciting sound and have great fun interacting as a team.

Whether through West African drumming, Brazilian samba or Balinese gamelan music, the wonderfully rich experience of making music together, exploring and celebrating different cultures and developing skills and confidence to play and improvise will have a wide impact.

Students learn to recognise and value teamwork, discipline and determination, to encourage and appreciate the contributions of others and to develop and explore their creativity. Whilst broadening students' understanding of many key elements of music, musicianship, composition, improvisation and performance skills, the positive impact will be evident beyond the boundaries of Music and Performing Arts.

At Inspire-works, we recognise that teachers understand the positive impact that music can have, but also that they would value support in developing their own skill levels and confidence in a way that builds capacity to sustain an ongoing programme to deliver powerful and engaging lessons. Our aim is to inspire and equip teachers with the expertise and resources they require to ignite a life-long passion for music in their students.

Inspire-works' INSET sessions provide teachers with the necessary tools for teaching Balinese gamelan music, West African drumming and Brazilian samba in the classroom and enhance their practical work with pupils.

Our facilitators will make references throughout the sessions to how the Balinese Arts, West African Drumming or Brazilian samba relate to the Key Stages 1, 2, & 3 National Curriculum and to Key Stage 4 and 5 qualifications. They will share a wide range of ideas and offer very practical advice on how to teach these styles in the classroom. Workshop notes are provided for all participants.

"Excellent session in which we learned far more than I could ever have imagined. No time was wasted - totally inspiring."

"The structure of the session supported less confident people. Gives an insight into how children feel when presented with something unknown."
